BIOGRAPHY Deborah Aitken has been fascinated with the piano since she was a young girl. From her childhood days as a prodigy she developed into an artist in demand around the world as a concert pianist. She also is sought by music organizations for lecture-recitals, competition adjudicating, master classes, coaching and private lessons here and abroad. She performs in all concert genre as solo recitalist, concerto soloist and collaborative pianist, both in live venues and for television and radio.
Ms. Aitken has lived and studied in many parts of the United States as well as in Milan, Rome, Stockholm and Paris. All of these experiences plus extensive travel have served her in her quest to learn the secrets of the pianists of the bygone Golden Age of piano, when music was created by individuals schooled in all historical, theoretical and technical aspects filtered through original insight and personal conviction. Her emphasis on a sophisticated and varied tone color palette is the result of this study which she has augmented with her own imagination and experimentation. The study of harpsichord, voice and acting also have contributed.
Deborah Aitken holds degrees in solo performance and piano accompanying. She has made the study of music of the French and Latin styles a special emphasis, furthered by a grant to study in Paris with a long-time protégé of Marguerite Long.
A lifelong interest in animals has led Ms. Aitken to use her talents to support wildlife through concerts and by donating a percentage of her CD sales to conservation efforts. As a strong advocate of arts education she has performed many times over 30 years in concerts to raise money for school music programs.
